I just finished one of the books on my summer reading list, John Grisham's Camino Island trilogy . I decided to reread the fully series starting with Camino Island and ending with the new book, Camino Ghosts.

All three books have the same main characters, Bruce Cable, owner of the local bookstore, Mercer Mann, a young novelist and college professor, and a few other local writers round out the group. This series is not the typical JG legal thriller although Camino Ghosts includes a trial.

Here is a quick summary of each book:

1 - Camino Island - the original manuscripts of F. Scott Fitzgerald are stolen from Princeton. Mercer tries to help find the missing manuscripts and meets Bruce, who also is a rare book dealer.

2 - Camino Winds - A hurricane hits Camino Island and a local author, Nelson Kerr, is killed during the storm. His death is suspicious and Bruce decides to investigate.

3 - Camino Ghosts - Small uninhabited island, Dark, Isle, off the coast of Camino Island was formerly home to escaped slaves. A developer is interested in building a resort and wants to buy the island from the State of Florida. One woman, Lovely Jackson, stands in the way. Ms. Jackson was the last inhabitant of Dark Isle and claims to be the owner.

Overall, I enjoyed all three books and, while not JG's best, in my opinion, the series keeps the pages turning with likeable characters and plenty of twists and turns. Great summer reading. I would give the series a solid 4 and Camino Winds slightly higher.

Until next time, keep those pages turning....
