Hard to believe we are in the final stages of summer, although I expect the temperatures are going to be summerlike for a few more months.

At the beginning of summer, I posted by reading list and have provided several reviews. In addition to those books, I have read several others and decided to provide a short review for a few of those books, some winners and some not. I call this my Summer Shorts. As always, here is the list in no particular order.

1 - Sex and Vanity by Kevin Kwan. Four stars. What I liked, the characters. There are many LOL moments, especially from Rosemary! What I did not like, it had a slow start. In fact, I tried to read this book last year and could not get into it.

2 - Summer of Songbirds by Kristy Woodson Harvey. Three stars+. What I liked, the characters - three friends since childhood summer camp. What I did not like, it was a little slow. I thought it could have ended earlier.

3 - Bad Summer People by Emma Rosenblum. Five stars. What I liked (or liked to hate), the characters and also the setting, summer on Fire Island. This book is so entertaining. While I could not relate, it was a fun summer read.

4 - The Sunshine Girls by Molly Fader. Four stars. What I liked, the relationship between the two main characters who met in nursing school and the historical references. What I did not like, the plot is oddly similar to another book, Did You Hear About Kitty Karr.

5 - The Net Mrs. Parrish by Liv Constantine. Three stars, barely. Did we need a sequel? What I liked, the ending - you reap what you sow. What I did not like, some parts seemed unrealistic, Jackson got out of jail really fast.

6 - Look Closer by David Ellis. Four stars+. What I liked, twists and turns like nothing I have read in a while. Just when I thought I had it, I did not. What I did not like, too many twists and I got lost.

7 - Natural Selection by Elin Hilderbrand. Five stars. This was just a short story but I lived everything about this. I hope this means there will be more from Ms. Hilderbrand.

8 - Gone One Year by Avery Bishop. Three stars, barely. What I liked, the plot, daughter goes missing and contacts her mom after missing for a year. What I did not like, the characters, not very believable and too many twists and turns.

9 - The #1 Lawyer by James Patterson. Five stars. What I liked, Stafford Lee Penney, the main characters. Hope to see more of him. What I did not like, nothing.

10 - The Teacher by Frieda McFadden. Three stars, barely. I did not like much about this book. I usually have a hard time figuring out the ending, not this time. Not her best book.

Enjoy the rest of the summer and keep turning those pages.....
