Hard to believe May is here. It brings a saying to mind, "April showers bring May flowers". Where I live, we have certainly had our share of April showers so May should be beautiful. All of this rain gave me the excuse to curl up with a book.

April was a month of discovery with new authors or new series. In no particular order, here are my top five reads for April:

  1. The Truth About the Devlins by Lisa Scottoline. I am longtime fan of Ms. Scottoline and loved everything about this book, great characters, suspense and family drama. The book tells the story of a family law firm headed by a domineering father. Three siblings work at the family firm, one of which is the black sheep of the family.

  2. The Unquiet Bones by Loreth Anne White. Please see my previous post on this book. Ms. White is a new author for me and I will be back for other books. I loved the main character, Detective Jan Munro, who is investigating the discovery of human remains.

  3. The Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas. I am clearly late to the party with this book. I have read about this series for a while but did not think it was for me - too much fantasy. No way was I going to like this book. Thanks to a friend loaning me the book, I gave it a try and now I am hooked.

  4. Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid. This book has consistently received high reviews and it finally hit the top of my TBR pile. This book is about an aging actress who retains a writer to tell her life story. Because the book covers such a long time period, elements of history are artfully woven into the story. Watch out for the ending, I did not see it coming.

  5. Step on a Crack by James Patterson and Michael Ledwidge. This is the first of the Michael Bennett series. A friend gave me the latest in this series for my birthday and I thought it would be helpful to start with the first in the series. The main character, Michael Bennett, is a New York City detective. In this first book, he is negotiating the release of well-known hostages who were attending the First Lady's funeral at. St. Patrick's Cathedral. As if that was not stressful enough, his wife is dying and he has 10 adopted children (yes 10). Another series where I am now hooked. I have already read the second in the series and it was just as good as the first.

Until next time, keep turning those pages...
